Placement of Secondary Global Catalog 3

Hi guys, we have a domain with 2 Domain Controllers, where the FSMO roles are split between the two. One server had the GC and the other holds the Infra Master role. When performing maintenance on the DC that holds the GC role, we notice that logons take a lot longer (of course because the GC cannot be found). My question is; although I would like to make the second DC a GC also, MS indicates that a DC should not have both the Infra Master and GC roles on the same box. So in an environment with only DCs (on different networks), is it okay to add the GC role to the second server, or should I not worry about having a backup GC in this case. Your thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thank you.

If there is only one domain, and no trusts with other domains, then making the Infra Master a GC will not be an issue.

Thanks for that Scott, we do have a trust established with a domain in an entirely separate forest, do you see issues with this? Also can you tell me why having trusts with other domains be affected by putting a GC and Infra role on the same box?

Thanks for the link Pat. In my case since the domain we trust is in an entirely different forest on its own, then it wouldn't matter if the IM and GC are on the same box (from what I gather). Great info guys. A start for both of you.
