Definitly have to agree, if you bought it from a store take it back asap. There is a hardware issue that they need to resolve.

Did it come with an OS installed already? If so, are you trying to upgrade the OS, if so, don't. Reformat the drive and start fresh. However, I must agree with the others... first course of action is to return it!

When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

it is working fine when i loaded win98 but i cannot load win2000 or winxp b'cos in the middle it is stopping and then saying it cant copy files from cd and crashing and sometimes i got message as registry wrror, i checked that also and it is fine but when it comes to win2000 or xp i couldnt able to install it is crashing with blue screen and physical dump of memory.it is saying that adjust bios memory settings and (once it also said that upgrade bios)
pl. suggest me
thankyou

If returning the PC is not an option? then:

Go into the bios and set failsafe defaults (these are low performing options that won't stress the hardware)

Next suspect is the memory (XP does tends to turn up weaknesses that 98 wouldn't) so if you have more than one memory module install one at a time and try again.

next would be memory and CPU settings and as you havn't posted your system spec I can only speculate, but these must be set correctly.

Now the CD disk, is it damaged? is it geniune?

If you have more than 1 CDrom then try installing from another drive (possible faulty rom)

Finally, when all else fails, sometimes carrying out a low level format on the hard drive then reinstalling can sometimes have a positive effect.

thankyou for those who all have replied but my problem still remains the same.
it is pentium4 3.06Ghz and 1gig ram and 80gig hard disk
and 128mb radeon 9000 video card.Bios is phenix version 3.23,and i dont get any options regarding the video memory but it is saying in the error message to set the bios memory options.
can any body tell me for the above configiguraton what all i should be careful when installing a new operating system in the bios. CAn anybody tell me what all softwares/drivers should i load to make system to work without anyproblem. right now i cannot connect to internet with win98 too.
i think it is registry problems.
one more thing is i bought in ebay so i have very least chances of retuening that system.
can anybody suggest me.

hi the mother board is intel and the number says MS6577,i hope it is microstar
pl.give advice

Is the copy of XP that you are installing a legal copy or a pirated disk? Could be a bad copy!

If it is legal, return it to the store for a new one if possible.

Also, I never recommend upgrading an OS... do a clean install! Windoze doesn't always upgrade gracefully, and it tends to leave artifacts of the old system on the new install.

Have you tried copying the CD to a directory on your HD and installing from there, if you insist on the upgrade vs. clean install path?

When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

hi finally i got my system working slowly i have done troubleshooting and there is one bad 512 mb ram ,
so i enquired all the people and at last i found that if u couldnt able to install the operating system then one of the peoblem is the bad or unworking ram.
usually if the install starts and aborts in the middle with blue screen message then one the important reasons is bad or damaged ram.
thinking that this will be helpful i am giving the answer.
thankyou for everybody who all tried to help me
bye
