Anyone know if PKZIP 2.04 works on Windows XP in DOS?

I can't see any reason why not, but remember that it is a 16 bit application, so won't understand long filenames. This is a known issue on every MS os since Windows 95.

I suggest getting hold of the Winzip command line addon from which handles long filenames fine, or the latest 32 bit version of PKZip from

Another point actually: Windows XP's compressed folders feature is the same as a Zip file, so if you are using XP you don't actually need the external programs. However, i am not sure how easy it is to automate programmatically.
