Hi,

first of all thank you for this great website and forum i've discovered recently...

here is my question (and problem)

I've installed pixelpoint v8 on a windows 7 POS, but each time i start "license manager" (with sentinel key connected to usb port) nothing happened... I try to install it with XP sp2/3 compatibility mode and the result is the same. This app don't want to start.

So is it possible to execute it on win 7 and the answer is yes, how ?

By advance thank you

Best regards

Seb

Hi Seb,

is there any error message popping up? Usually it should tell, that the key is not found. Try to run the license manager "As Administrator" - and see, what happens.

Kind regards
Mirko

In addition to my previous post I found out, that even the V10 ist not certfied for Win7 - only for Windows 2000 Pro, 2000 Server, 2000 Terminal Services, POS Ready 2009, XP Home, XP Pro Embedded, Windows 2003 Server Family.

So, maybe it simply will not work with Win7.

Hello Kermit01de

thank you for this prompt answer !!!!

ok i have try to run it as administrator as well but nothing... actually license manager don't want to start (no message key license missing)
i have check windows firewall as said in the manual, same result.

As you said on your latest message it doesn't seems to be certified for win7... arrggghhhhh !

best regards

Seb

I just put a request directly to PAR/Pixelpoint to get final information if it may be possible somehow to use Win7. I will come back as soon as I get an answer.

PP is not sure yet, but they try to investigate, if any "tech-guy" found a trick.

btw - what about having a Win7 host system with touch etc. enabled, and a virtual machine running XP or 2000?

PP wants you to contact your official local PP dealer about the Win7 issue. He may get in touch with PP, I will not get any information about the issue, because you are unfortunately not MY customer.

Did you think about the VM solution?

Your best bet is to install XPP on the server. If it is a Win7 pro you are licensed for XP Pro. Install XPP using any license key (it can be one that is already in use). The license will fail and you will have to cal MS. You can give them the Win7 license numbers and they will give you a XPP license code you can enter. It's a pain but a lot of the older code POS systems will just not work on 7...
***when I do the above I always start with a new HD so as to not overwrite 7 on the existing drive. I them use that drive on the next machine...

Hi Kermit01.de & posrescue...

Thank you very much for these answers...
Actually, it was an hardware problem and i swap the HDD from a POS machine to an another, so my pixel point is now able to start again without re-installing OS...

So thank you again.

I have an another question concerning replication server but do i have to open an other thread or can i continue on this one ?

Best regards

Hi alias4,

would be better to open a new one ... to keep a structure in threads ;-)

Kind regards

Hello,
You can use a newer LicenseManager.exe file, like V10 to run in windows 7.
PixelPoint V8 and V9 have issues regarding the end of day where the system just freezes.
you may think in downgrading to XP to run PP.
anyway, you can try and make some tests.
if you need the licensemanager.exe V10 file, look for it on mypixel, or contact me
greetings

Just a bit of information......

Some applications will not work on Windows 7 64bit but will work fine on Windows 7 32 bit.

Any upgrades to POS software that are not gonna be on XP should be done with Windows 7 Professional 32 bit until the manufacturers have had time to make their stuff 64 bit ready

Of course the Windows XP Virtual machine is available but it is not going to be supported after XP is "sundowned"

Unfortunately Dell has stopped shipping Win7 32bit
Also.... and this is a real kicker most of the new Dell machines have no PCI slots any more. All are PCI-express
