Hi all

I'm trying to upgrade a PIX 520 from version 4.2(3) to version 6.2. I've created a boot disk using rawrite.exe program in windows, but when i try to boot the PIX using this disk i get the following error and the PIX keeps on rebooting. Does anyone know what is causing this error?

many thanks

Max

Not true! I am running a PIX 520 with 6.2(2) with no problems. It may be your flash card does not have 16MB of memory. It sounds like you have the older 2MB flash card installed. The Cisco model # for the 16MB card is "PIX-FLASH-16MB=". However, this card is not cheap! It goes for about $700 - $800.

Yeah thanks, my current PIX has only 2MB flash memory!!

You are almost better off buying a whole PIX nowdays. We just paid 900 and change for a 16meg flash 520 PIX. We added our own NICs to bring it up to 6 interfaces. With the price of the flash at 750 plus, another 150 for the whole PIX makes it a bargin.

Hi, I have a "PIX FIREWALL" and i recive the same errors.

I have 2MB Flash, i have created the boothelper 532 floppy with rawrite. when i boot of the floppy i get the above errors.

Anyone have any ideas on what i can be doing wrong?

Thanks

Also, Does anyone know where i can download an older PIX Software. I can only seem to find pix529.bin, on the Cisco site.

Thanks

ALL,

A PIX 520 with 2MB of flash can be upgraded up to a 5.1.X version. Issue a show version command and determine the flash size using the table below:

Flash Size
i28F020 512 KB
AT29C040A 2 MB
atmel 2 MB
i28F640J5 8 MB - PIX 506
strata 16 MB
All other 16MB

Any ideas where i can download 5.1.x. It does not appear to be on the Cisco PIX download page?

I now have a pix 520... But I do not think there is an IOS on it... I cannot telnet into the unit at all.

How can I obtain, and install the IOS on to the unit?

(or any directions to a website with such information would be helpful, I'm a newbie to the pix, and would like to learn as much as I can)

Thanks,
Lan
