PIX 520 DES activation key problem 1

Hi every body,

I have a PIX 520 and i wanted to get the free DES activation key from Cisco, but i get a error message says my serial number is not valid!!!

The serial number I've entered was from the show version, also its on the PIX's case and on the floppy disk.

I think it means that they don't have any service contract related to my PIX.

I don't know what to do now! I'll be happy to hear some advice.

i don't know of any other way to get that enabled other than putting it on support, sadly the serial is used to run an algorithm to generate the new activation key.

I don't have anything regarding this we have a support contract but its for qty rather than by appliance. any cisco partner should be able to get a figure for you, I wouldn't have through that cisco lock there upgrades out if the device isn't under support, our 3rd party are not aware of our serial numbers and i successfully upgraded our firewalls to use ssh2. I'm sure cisco will supply this for free as its an update to all firewalls.

i sent an email to Cisco (tac@cisco) and wrote the problem but till now no answer!

I don't know what should i do.

Contact a Cisco retailer / cisco certified Partner they are normally pretty good.

Just explain it to them.

I tried the Cisco retailer / cisco certified Partner with no success.

I called Cisco hotline and they opened a case for me.
Guess what, in 80 Min. i got the activation key.

I'm Glad you got the key you needed ,I have have been through the same pain in the past and other times i just enter the serial and bang theres the new activation key to upgrade it.
