I'm pretty much a newbie and I'm pretty much confused as to what is the best way to hook up a PIX 515 to the network. It has 3 ethernet ports - one to the internet router (crossed), one for the inside which goes to one of 5 switches, and one for the "remote", which are our web servers, all with legal addresses.

All the servers are plugged into one switch. Should that third ethernet cable plug into that switch? And... should that switch be connected to the other switches? If I do that, aren't I connecting the "remote" to the "inside" or???

Thanks for any and all help!

The third cable (DMZ) gets attached to the web server network, which is not attached to any internal networks. They sit out there all alone.

Thanks for the info... So the switch that has the servers all attached should not be connected to any other switch. Does the switch itself need to have a legal address?

The switches don't need any IP address unless they're manageable. Then, they'll need an address on whatever segment they're serving. Don't connect the switches together. The "inside", "outside", and "DMZ" segments are separate LAN networks.
