Hi

Just taken over at a company, handed a password list, need to make some changes, try to logon to the PIX 506E & password doesn't work. Any way of backdooring the password without losing the setup, or getting the setup of the box (I have a spare idential PIX which I could re-build if I had the original settings).

I've never really used Cisco before so some hand holding would be gratefull!

Many thanks

Barry

Also, as you are going to connect via the console port, if you are using Hyperterm the break sequence you need to use is crtl&Break together.

One thing it doesnt specify is the settings needed to conect via hyperterm, set up a new session for your serial port and you need 9600 Bits per sec
8 Data Bits
No Parity
1 Stop bit
No flow control.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,

Russky

HI.

The pix has 2 passwords by default:
telnet password
enable password

Maybe the password you have is for enable, and you did try telnet, so:
1) Try to telnet and use the password "cisco" as telnet password.
2) Try to use PDM ( ) or the serial console cable - both need only the enable password skipping the telnet password.

If the above fails, use the password recovery procedure described in Cisco web site.

Since you have another pix device, you can configure the other device from scratch in a lab - this will give you a good practice and experience you need, and then you can switch over the pix boxes later if you need to do some thing with the existing one (for example password recovery).
Remember that if you do later replace pix hardware with another, you need to also reboot the router or at least clear the arp cache on the router that points to the MAC address of the "old" pix.

You'll find some pix related links here:
