Hi,
I've created a pivotchart that shows my data correctly but I can't find a way to remove "Sum of" which appears in front of the data labels and also in the legend. Instead of "Sum of Data1", for example, I just want it to say "Data1". Did I miss something obvious? Thanks in advance..

In your query design view, in front of the field name in question, put your alternate field name with a colon.

So, if your field name is "Price" you don't want the regular view to show it as "SumOfPrice" you should type "[Total Price]: Price" in the top line of your price field in your query design view. The brackets are needed only if you want to include otherwise forbidden characters such as spaces. Otherwise, it could be: "TotalPrice: Price

I have renamed fields before in non-pivotchart queries as you described. However, in the pivotchart query (or form), the record source depends directly on those names. When I put my own name in front, the pivotchart loses that data item. When I add it back to the pivotchart, it still puts "Sum of" in front. Have you successfully made the name change in the query when using the pivotchart view?
Thanks for your help...

Try switching to the SQL View. You should see "As SumOfAbc" somewhere in there, and you should be able to modify that there.

Hi cthaxter,
I've also done that in non-pivotchart queries but it doesn't work in the pivotchart query because the chart is generated on the fly as the query is "viewed". Thus, there is no "Sum of" label to change before the query is run. That's why I have found this so challenging. I can't find a place where I can actually change the label. Have you successfully done this in pivotcharts before?
Thanks,
Alexis

Sorry I can't be of help. I thought you were talking about cross-tab queries. My mistake.

You may want to re-post your question to the "Microsoft: Access Queries and JET SQL" group here at Tek-Tips. There may be better query experts there.

The way to simply change the text in a PivotChart LEGEND is to switch from PivotChart View to PivotTable View. Then click once to highlight the field name that reads "Sum of...", then go to properties, when the properties dialog box displays select the "caption" tab, now go to the item titled "caption" and simply type in the new text you would like reflected in your Legend. Switch back to PivotChart View and you will see the Legend has changed.

Cheers,
TLG
