I'm hoping someone can offer me some advice on pivot tables...

I am trying to create a Excel pivot table from an csv file, which is a report output from an Oracle database. (I originally wanted to link directly with the db, but could not obtain the correct permissions, so am left with no choice but to use an output file.) I cannot use an Excel file as there are too many rows. I also cannot put the file into Access and source directly as this is not a supported application in my organisation.

Any ideas?

What have you tried? I just tried making a PivotTable from CSV, and it wasn't that hard ( a bit fiddly, I'll admit ).

I may have time to write out each little step in the process later today.

Thanks for your reply Glenn

I create the pivot table using the menu command, select 'excel list or database' as the source, and then navigate to a csv file. When i try to click 'next' i get the error message 'reference is not valid'. I get the same problem with a txt file also.

Am I doing something wrong? (I'm using version 2007 if that makes a difference)

It's not an Excel list or database. It's a CSV. You have to go through the Get External Data route.

Cheers, Glenn.
