Pivot Table Issue

I need to show a string value in the Data Field of a Pivot Table. Is this possible? My values are either "Y" or empty. It displays as a 1. This is because it is a Count.

DATA fields are AGGREGATIONS: sum, count, average, Min, Max etc.

In Crystal, it defaults to a count as well, but in Crystal I can say 'Max of' and it turns to a 'Y' versus a 1. When I try this in excel, it does not change the value.

What is this that your tried? Max of in PivotTable is a NUMERIC value the MAXIMUM numeric value in the region.

"What is this that your tried?" refers to creating a crosstab in Crystal with the same data as in excel. It initially appears as a 1, but after setting it to a max of versus a count of, it changes the value displayed to a 'Y', which is what I want it to do. When I try the same thing in Excel, it does not do it.

I realize that one is a crosstab versus a pivot table and that they are 2 different applications, but it should work. If the data is a string and I say give me a count of, I understand that the result should be a 1. If I change it to a Max function, shouldn't it be the value. Apparently, the data inj a pivot table can only be an integer. I was hoping that someone could assist me in a workaround in excel, but I guess this is not possible.

This is NOT true.

The Values in the Data Area in a pivot table can only be NUMERIC.

why should it work in Excel just because it works in Crystal ?? as you say - different apps therefore differnet results. What you want to do is not possible in a pivot table in excel
