In creating a pivot table, is there a way to "show all" even if there isn't any data?

example:

Name value
category1 $40
category2 $60
category3 0

Usually, category3 would be filtered out by the pivot table because it is empty. I need the category to be displayed regardless of whether it has values in it. Can this be done??

thanks!

Hi,

Put one or more DUMMY rows in your source data.

Hi Skip,

I'm not sure if that is functionally possible. We use a cube to build pivot tables drawing data from our database which has over 52 million rows.

Have you tried right-clicking on the item field and choosing 'show items with no data'

Hmmm... I don't have that option. I can hide dimensions, which isn't quite the same thing. That option isn't available on the Field or Table options either.

Sorry, should have said right-click on the NAME field, choose 'field settings' and then at the bottom of that dialog box on the left should be the option 'show items with no data'.

This assumes you actually have those fields in the source data and that they are just empty.

You should also be able to just double-click the field NAME and then choose that option.

Aha! I do have the "show items with no data" but it is greyed out (not active). I believe it is because the data is drawn from a database using a cube... right? The cube filters out the row because it's empty when it's drawn from the database.

thanks for all your help!
