Please help me!! I am trying to copnfigure a ISDN Lucent Pipeline router. Can someone please walk me through the steps of configuring this? I know that the SPID and switch type settings are incorrect, but I do not know how to get into the config menu to change this. Can I access the config without the db9 cable? Please let me know what I need and what I need to do to fix these settings. Thank you so much!

There are three ways to access the configs. The first and best way is out-of-band via the db9 cable using a VT-100 app like Hyperterminal. The second is telnet which requires that you know the Pipeline's IP address, telnet password (if applicable) and ethernet connectivity. The third, and least recommended way, is via SNMP using NavisConnect software. This requires ethernet connectivity, but you do not need to know the Pipeline's IP address. The caveat is SNMP R/W must be enabled on the Pipeline and you must know the SNMP R/W community string (the default is write). Refer to the Pipeline manuals for more details on how to access the configuration screens. If you don't have manuals, goto for PDF versions.

As for a how-to-configure step-by-step, there are many variables that need to be answered before suggesting any configuration. For instance, are you connecting to an ISP or directly to a central office? Are you receiving a static IP address, dynamic address, or do you have a pool of addresses? Do you need to run NAT? Etc, etc. Goto Lucent's support website at Login as a guest by clicking on General Access. Then select your product and look for tech notes. They can provide step-by-step configuration examples, but you have to know what you are planning on doing first.

Hope this helps. Good luck!
