Hi, i use a lucent pipeline 85 router to connect to ISDN by call. With static one or two channel configuration, the router work fine but the Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation (DBA) doesn't work. Here my configuration:
Encaps=MPP, DBA Monitor=Transmit-Recv, Base Ch Count=1, Min Ch Count=1, Max Ch Count=2, Sec History=15, Add Pers=5, Sub Pers=10,Target Util=70,Idle Pct=0. This works only with one Channel independent of the load. If i change the Base Ch Count=2 and the Min Ch Count=2 than i have always a 2 Channel connection even if no load exist. Can anyone help me ?

Do you know what device is at the remote end? Is it a Lucent RAS? The reason I ask is because MPP is Lucent (or rather Ascend) proprietary. This can only work if the RAS is a Lucent RAS (i.e. MAX, TNT, APX). And even then your ISP would also have to configure your profile to match yours. The ability to use DBA needs to be set up at both ends of the connection and must be negotiated when you first connect.

What is likely happening is the remote end is either not a Lucent product or they do not have you configured as an MPP connection. Therefore, since MPP cannot be negotiated, it defaults to MP instead. This would explain why you only get 1 channel when base ch count is 1 and 2 when base ch count is 2.

I think the ISP doesn't have a Lucent router and so the DBA could not work. thank for your information.

You can try using BACP and MP encapsulation. Perhaps your ISP can support this. BACP is basically the industry standard version of MPP. In fact I believe BACP is based on the MPP RFC.

Ask your ISP if they can do this. Remember, both ends of the connection need to have this configured to get BACP to work.
