Hi.. I like to connect an ISDN modem to a Belkin gateway/router, but the gateway doesnt have a usb conncetion. Can anybody help me with the pinlayout to convert usb to rj45
Thanks & have a nice day

It's not a pin out issue, it is a protocol issue. USB (universal Serial bus) is a different protocol all together than the 8 pin modular (ethernet) you have on the back of the device.

I suspect you will need an ISDN device with an ethernet (8 pin modular) output and a patch cable between the two. It might be easier to find an all in one device like the Cisco 804 series that provides you with an ISDN NT1 terminate, the ISDN 'modem', and a firewall/router.

Good Luck!

Hmm, I normally refer to that as a computer :)

Seriously thought, what you are trying to do is convert a USB protocol to an ethernet protocol, Cat5 just happens to be one wiring standard that ethernet runs on.

I did a quick google search for USB ethernet converter and it returned several good links for products that might fit the bill.

Good Luck!

Be sure you don't buy a USB ethernet adapter which is designed to allow a computer to access a local area network via its USB port, in essence an external network interface card. These usually require a driver to function correctly, and you will not be able to install the driver in an IDSN modem.

Another option may be to consider using a serial ISDN terminal adapter with your gateway/router rather than a USB one. Check your documentation to see if your router is designed to connect to 56K & ISDN modems via a serial port. If so, you may want to consider buying an inexpensive serial ISDN T/A. If not, then I'm with Daron... Go with a Cisco ISDN gateway router if you need a reliable solution or use a gateway/router with serial IDSN support and a serial ISDN T/A if you just need to cobble something together on the cheap.

I have a belkin usb to ethernet adapter on my pc, doesnt lose any speed and xp ahd the drivers already.

I have used those as well, but I understood him to indicate that he wanted to install it between the USB port on an IDSN Terminal Adapter and an Ethernet gateway/router. I am pretty sure it will not work correctly unless connected to a computer on the USB side. Just my $0.02.

What I realy want is to connect a ISDN modem to a wireless ethernet gateway/router to get it working. As long as I can't convert this usb protocol into cat5 protocol I can't configure the router/gateway.
The gateway/router mustbe connected between the computer and the modem.[B-)]

You need a usb-to-ethernet adaptor.
cat5 is not a protocol, it is a cabling specifecation.

The brand of the router/gateway is Belkin model F5D7230-4 version 1010 & the Isdn modem is from KNP Telcom Netherlands
Hope that this is of some help. I remain
