I have created a document and when I print it, there is a light pink halo (halo(ing)) one part of my document. I thought it may be the printer but the print shop one also is haveing the same problem. Any ideas on what I can do?

Thanks

Flying:

Look into flattening the artwork before printing (essentially expanding and rasterizing any transparency/effects used), because raster effects and transparency can cause that kind of "halo" or faint rectangular outlines. Also make sure you're in the right color mode (for serious print work should be CMYK).

well I spoke to soom, its still there. What res. should I flatten at?

I just got the proof back from company print and the halo is worse now and it looks all dark. Any other suggestions?

Flyingfisher:

Can you send me the files (preferably the non-flattened one and the flattened one both) and I'll take a closer look?

What kind of objects are showing this halo? Are you using effects, gradients, meshes, placed raster images, etc?

the halo looks like a shadow and the images that seem to cause this problem are:

one doc I created in photoshop

one scanned image

Are they the only raster images in your document? When you open the files in Photoshop, do they have a transparent background? If not, try using the eyedropper tool in Photoshop to sample the areas that are showing this halo, then click on the foreground color. What are the RGB or CMYK values it gives? I'm thinking it might be a case of a white area that's not quite white, and it's being exagerated when printed. Levels or Curves would be able to sort that out.

Will:

The drop shadows you used are not black, and I suspect that may be where the problem lies. Double-click in the color box in the DS dialog and change it to all black, and see if that does it. See below.

yeah, I changed them and interesting this is a front a back piece and the halo on the back is gone after messing with the drop shadow but the one on the front is still glowing.

Is there a way to open my Illus. File in photoshop and fix it that way. I deleted one of the images and then printed and the hole is now only around that one image I created in photoshop.

OK Try this:

The front image is a raster but with a bunch of transparency around the round object. Get rid of the drop shadow, and then do the following:

1. Select the raster image;

2. In the appearance palette, from the flyout select Add New Stroke; Nothing visible will happen yet;

3. Effect>Path>Outline Object, and now a black outline should be visible around the round object;

4. Object>Expand Appearance should make the path into an actual selectable path, visible as a selection;

5. Ungroup (This object is grouped several layers deep) until the ungroup option is greyed out;

6. Select the path only, and bring it to the front. Select both path and raster, and make a clipping mask;

7. Apply the drop shadow to this new masked object.

Here is what I have thus far. I deleted the two images and print to make sure they were the source of the problem. Which they seem to be becauause there is no halo. I copied and pasted the image's into sep. illus files and I am opening them in photoshop to check the levels and curves.
I will let you know if it works. Any other idea's?

Will:

The path you're selecting is the one around the round portion of the logo.

Hang on a minute, I'll post some pretty pictures for ya!
