I've got a single Windows 2000 Server and a few clients accessing the internet through it on a satelite modem. I have DHCP and DNS setup. The clients obtain ip addresses and browse the network fine. They even can browse the internet. However, when I try to set up internet email accounts on them, they cannot connect to the smtp or pop3 servers. When I try to ping any web address or these mail servers, I get the message "Request timed out". I can ping things fine from the server, however. Could someone please shed some light on this?

you have to setup you dhcp for a gateway and in the dns setup forward and reverse lookup zones

TRY EDITING YOUR HOSTS AND LMHOST FILES WITH THE FOLLOWING ENTRY EXAMPLES

E-MAIL SERVERS IP ADDRESS THEN POP.YOUR DOMAIN.COM
EMAIL SERVERS IP ADDRESS THEN SMTP.YOUR DOMAIN.COM
EG. FOR HOSTS FILE
192.168.1.1 POP.YAHOO.COM
192.168.1.1 SMTP.YAHOO.COM

FOR LNHOSTS FILE MAKE SURE YOU PUT A SPACE AFTER .COM AND PUT #PRE
EG. FOR LMHOSTS FILE

192.168.1.1 POP.YAHOO.COM #PRE
192.168.1.1 SMTP.YAHOO.COM #PRE

MAKE SURE YOU OPEN THESE FILES IN NOTEPAD AND SAVE THEM THE CHANGES WILL NOT TAKE EFFECT UNTIL YOU REBOOT

THANKS,
AARON
