Ping timeouts intermittant

Hiya,

I have three switches Catalsyt 3524. I am getting timeouts pinging certain machines on these units. I have VLANs running but they are fully open at present. Some of the machines on the vlan and the same switch ping better than other (ie none or one timeout). I have two other machines on another swtich and vlan which are even worse. Im a bit stuck.

We have reboot the switch disconnected all the machines and only allowed one up. The switchs are connected to a Catalsyt 6000 but not directly together. We have swapped calbes and machine around but there is no corrilation IE sometimes the machines will become fine on another port with the same cable othertimes it th problem seems to follow the cable. We have tested the cables the NICs seem fine and the switch ports work with some cables and machine on some port and not others etc

Any ideas or thoughts ? This started about a week ago but no changes have been made before then.

Are you using autonegotiation, or manually setting the speed and duplex settings?

Remember if you decide to manually change the duplex and speed settings on the switch, you also have to manually set them on the PC. Otherwise the PC will run at 10/Half Duplex and the switch won't know it.

If you had made speed, duplex changes to the switch and you did not do a write mem and the switch reloaded then your settings could have been lost and now you have a bunch of machines with mismatches . just a thought .

Believe it or not the prob lem was done to a ac adapter on a LCD VDU?!!??!

I presume a earthing problem etc along the same underfloor ppowertrack
