I have two computer(A and B) connected directly via cable. They both in the same workgroup. Both of them can use the command "ping" successfully ping each other.Yesterday, when i use the "ping" command in computer A to ping the computer B,it prompt "unable to initialize windows sockets interface, error code 0".I don't know what happened.
Anybody who can help me,thanks in advanced!!!!!!!

It would be good if you could give a bit more information like OS and if you have done any changes to the computer.

I take it with cable you mean normal ethernet cable?

If you are running any OS bar Windows XP the best way to solve tcp/ip problems is to uninstall the protocol and then reinstall it.

Another thing is apply the latest service pack and patches as they usually fixes/improves tcp/ip and patch security issues found.

Use the utility discussed in faq779-4625 as it sounds as if your Winsock service stack may be corrupted.

Thank you for Jump1ng and bcastner's replies!!!
My os is windows2000,cable is the normal ethernet cable.
Before the problem occurred,i uninstalled some software that no longer to be used(including some network tools).
