Hi

Can anyone point me in the correct direction. I have a 61c and have 5 PC`s connected locally to 3 QSDI boards. Problem I have is that none of them actually log into the 61C (using Procomm plus, settings, 9600, 8,1, none) .

I can log in with Laptop through the CPU`s (connecting to J25, using Procomm plus, settings, 9600, 8,1, none).

I have outed the TTY ports and created new, checked the Dip switch settings(they are correctly set according to NTP`s)

the actual tty ports test OK according to the 61C. I just need to know that the following Pinout does actually work as the Nortel Pinout as far as Im aware is NOT standard RS232:
1 - 1
6 - 2
2 - 3
7 - 4
3 - 5
8 - 6
4 - 7
9 - 8
5 - 9

If anyone has any information about configuring TTy`s or the Pinout it will be most appreciated. Take it easy on me though Im relatively new to Meridian.

Make sure that the port on Procomm is set to the port that the laptop is using. Also try E-7-1.

The pin out that I have for a TTY cable (NT8D95AJ) that I know works is;
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,18,20,25 Straight through.

Thanks for the response will give it a go tomorrow.

My major problem is really not being able to get the PC to speak to the PABX.

I have used new QSDI cards, Sys Monitor cards and still getting the same issue. I do feel that it is a cable issue, but Im no expert and hence put it to the guys who have been doing this a while. I have read in the NTP`s thatI have to do a SYS INIT or EDD BACK UP after the reseating or disabling of the Sys Mon!! As the changes are sent to volatile memory only!! Can anyone confirm this!! Thanks to evryone who has responded so far, much appreciated.

A straight thru cable should work, if not try inserting
a Nul Modem connector on the cable, make sure your procomm
is using the correct com port, probably com 1.
The system monitor cards have nothing to do with you
communicating with the PBX, they just monitor power,
tempeture and the fans. All you have to do to reseat a
system monitor is disable it in LD 37 and re-enable
it after pushing it back in. I don't know what you read
in the NTP's but read it again, I think you missed something.

Good luck

Is this the 4 port Paddle Board or the QSDI card that sits in the network shelve (QPC841)?

QPC841 uses standard pinout

Paddle board pinout -

Northern DB9 DB9 Pinout DB25 Pinout
Paddle Board Standard
2 3 2 TXD
6 2 3 RXD
4 7 4 RTS
9 8 5 CTS
8 6 6 DSR
3 5 7 GRND
1 1 8 DCD
7 4 20 DTR

Hi guys

Thank you for those who responded. On my 61C the system Monitor is configured on the first Port on the QSDI Paddle board. Is this standard or just the way the installers have configured it so.

I have confirmed that I am indeed using Comm 1 on Procomm and indeed the settings are correct.

I have tried a straight through cable and this didnt work (to my suprise really)!

Will let you guys know if the Pinout in this thread works.

Thanks

You say you have 5 PC's connected to the switch, what did they do???????

the 5 PC`s are basically maintenance terminals that I teach the students with. This fault occured after a major Power outage that went wrong (drastically). I had a problem with the system monitor but cleared that down its fine now.

I have used a known tested working paddle board and it is working fine but still cant communicate with the PC`s using 9 pin to 9 pin.

I have reconfigured the tty`s in LD 17 and am confident that it is configured correctly.

Thanks for the help and suggestions I ahve cables getting made as we speak of the pinouts that were mentioned on the this thread.

Thanks for the help guys its well appreciated.

I don't see how a power problem could make the cables stop working.

Yeah I agree about the power problem effecting the cables but it did effect the system monitor. Had to replace the system monitor but that was straight forward enough.

It is probable that it is just coincidential, I got told from a guy who works here that the Pin out is a straight through Pinout!! But reading the NTP`s Nortel have their own specialised RS232 which is definitely not standard, I think I am gonna keep with the advice of you guys and hopefully crack this.

Again thanks alot for your help.
