pics won't bleed

Hey there everyone.

I created a photoshop .tiff file and then placed it into my pagemaker file. the document size is 6x16" with a bleed.

The image is 6.25" creating a 1/8" bleed. However when printing the composite or the seperations, this pic only prints at 6".

Why won't the bleed portion print?

What size paper are you printing to?

The paper size is 8.5x14". I use the feature fit to paper size.

The document becomes a 4x6" brochure. There are other colored boxes that are also 4x6.25 and they print out with the bleed portion. As did the orginal .jpg file. But the .jpg would color separate so I made the photoshop pics into .eps files. They seperate perfect, but don't bleed.

This sounds like the wrong choice to make - if you are indeed using it, then the 6x16" paper will stretch to fit the 8.5x14" paper. But it's not even the same ratio of width to length, so forcing it to fit to paper size will allow this to happen in the width but not the height (which is greater than the paper). So it's sort of understandable why the extra bleed won't print. Why not send it to print at the original size rather than fitting it to paper? Or else I have completely misinterpreted your information.

its not the paper size or the "reduce to fit" feature.

Its only the .esp pics that don't bleed. The other color boxes made in pagemaker bleed perfectly.

Also, when printing color seperations to .pdf at 100% size, the .eps files still print without the bleed.

I just don't know how to fix it.

This is just a shot in the dark, but try saving the JPGs as TIFs rather than EPSs.

I will try that again, but outside of the .eps files, the pics didn't color seperate.

That is very odd. I always use TIFs when placing colour graphics from Photoshop. Never have any trouble with separating them.

I've just had another thought... why not set up the PM doc to a size that will include bleed. You're going to have to trim anyway...
