Can we start a post of pics of wiring jobs that we have done that we might be exceptionally proud of.
I've seen some good ones and some really bad ones. We've just started taking pictures of them, so I dont have any that I'm real proud of, but I'm sure you guys do.

I'd love to see some of y'all handy work.

If this has been done before, I apologize.

This is the one across form my office I told you about. We are not through but it is a lot better than when we started. This rack has about 500 connections and two 4500 series Cisco switches in it.

After converting to Cat 5E from Amphinal cables.

Post a picture or two after all the smoke & dust have settled! [smile]

It never settles here. It just moves from one closet to the next. I will send a couple after we are through.

First I would like to thank all for the infomation in this forum. I have used this information to start my own "on the side" calbling company and have made a p_pot full of money.

Im especially proud to be able to share pictures so others can follow in my footsteps.

Love those 50 ft factory patch cables.

Routing cable to data center.

Keep up the good work telling us how to cable like experts.

Time to take the person(s) who did the wiring shown in midnitecabler's photos out to the woodshed! [bugeyed]

MIDNITECABLER,

Are you sure that your final 4 picutres weren't taken at the warehouse that I described earlier in the thread? They look very similar... ;-)

I like them. They keep us in a job...

[cheers]

Most cabling nightmares start as a well intentioned temporary fix and well.... we all know where that leads.

Our Net Admin here once ran a connection to a printer server (I didn't know what it was at the time) from the switch to a jack that hung out of the ceiling. The fastener to attach it to the ceiling was their standard method, a paperclip under a ceiling tile. In one place, so it looked like an ole sway backed nag hanging. Every time you opened up the door to this room, the cable would get caught in the door closure. I complained for several months that I could not even get in with the mess they had created.

One morning I had to trace down a trouble in this closet and of course the cable got caught on the door. I tried several times to open the door just right so the cable would not get hung, but it just wouldn’t work so I took out my trusty snips and eliminated the problem. That’s when I found out what that connection was for. The whole (6 floors) building could not print to a networked printer.

I came back in that closet several days later (after hearing about the nightmare our Net Admin had to fix) to see what they did to fix this unscheduled outage. A new cable was placed in the ladder rack to the switch, and terminated on a patch panel and was even labeled.

What it takes to get things done right around here sometimes, I tell ya.
