hello all,

i'm a newbie and forgive me if this too silly.

when doing a report in impromptu using filters when i say select values it displays only 100 unique value and says Picklist limit has been reached. how do i make it show all the unique values of a given column.

also in prompts when the user is prompted it shows only some values and not all values. how do i make the prompt display all the available values for the user to select.

thanks for any help

coggykid,

The default for picklist rows is 100 or so (depending on version). To increase this add the following line to the Impromptu.ini file under the [Startup Options] section:

Picklist limit=xxx

where xxx is the number of rows you want to allow. This will have to be in the users .ini also, so you may want to publish the changed file to an open network area and create a .bat file to pull the new .ini file down to the user's computers.

As of version 6, this file is located in the Program Files directory, under /Cognos/cer1/bin. This becomes 'cer2' in Series 7 of Impromptu.

Don't make this value unnecessarily large. It consumes resources. Also, it doesn't make sense to have a picklist of over a thousand items. Users don't want to wade through it. Look at cascading picklists as an alternative.

Hope this helps,

Dave Griffin ;-)
