The other day I received a blue screen saying (amongst other things):
Starting Physical Memory dump.... Physical memory dump complete.

Then my system rebooted and everything was ok... but an hour later the blue screen re appeared and this time said something like, checking hard drive due to inconsistency etc... fixing problems / errors. (or something like that).

Ever since it has been ok (3 days have passed). Anyone know what happend and is it something I should worry about??

Just before it happend i had installed Unreal Tournament 2003. At the time it happend Norton was doing a HD scan for viruses. I was surfing the net whilst Norton was doing its scan.

I have Windows XP pro - a 2.5 P4, 80gb HD, 512RAM, Creative 3D blaster 128mb Ti 4600 graphics card.

The memory dump is just additional information for troubleshooting. A file has been created on your hard drive with the contents of your physical memory at the time of the crash. You can find this file by searching for ".dmp" (without quotes). Microsoft has some tools to analyze this info.

Some more helpful information to post if it happens again would be the actual error information. You can set your computer to not automatically reboot by right clicking on My Computer, Properties, Advanced tab, Startup & Recovery Settings button, uncheck Automatically restart. Now you will have time to see the error and copy it down.

You can also check the event viewer to see what errors are listed at the time of the crash. Start, Run, eventvwr.msc

Thanks for your information. I will check as you suggested.

It was something I had never seen before and i just wanted to check that it wasn't something to worry about. As everything seems to be fine now, I'll try and forget it happend but I will be more prepared in the future.

Thanks again.
