PhP and XML

i have been using Xml with asp, and there is a need for me to develop a php site using XML.

I have been looking at php.net, but find the function notation confusing, as I am used to do all my xml processing with ASP.

Does anyone know of any good resources with samples script that that can pick certain child nodes, iterate through them, and setting up of data islands.
