Hello,
I would like to ask if Photoshop users are perferring the new CS(2) versions or sticking with the previous more prevalent versions.

Photoshop templates for websites are usually provided at v6 compatibility (please visit to see what I'm talking about). In your opinion, should templates be provided as v7 or even CS+ compatible files?

Your thoughts would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

its all dependant on the user. i have CS & v7 installed on my Mac. i tend to use 7 more frequently, probably because i'm more comfortable with the interface and it does everything i need it to. also i think its a bit more stable. a handful of times CS has froze up on me for no apparent reason.

as far as the templates go... any template created in v6 can easily be imported into 7 or CS... that shouldn't be a problem at all...

The first thing I noticed with CS2 was that the 'link layers' feature now has to be done in two stages.
In CS you just click next to each layer you want to link and that's it. Now we've taken a step back because you have to first select the layers by shift clicking each one and then click the link button at the bottom of the layers pallette. Why this change ???
Does somebody know of a one click way ?
I'm sticking with CS mark 1 until I'm forced to change.

I love being able to shift-select multiple layers. I always tried to do that before (out of habit) and it was frustrating that I couldn't. It may be an extra step to link, but now you can easily rearrange multiple layers, merge them, etc...

In general, I'm really enjoying all of the CS2 programs. Everyday I discover something new :)

Yes, I can see benefits as you describe of being able to shift-select.
The more I think about it the more I see that the benefits outweigh the downsides.
I don't have CS2 but made my rather brief observations using a friend's computer.
I guess it's hard to find real fault with such a fantastic app as P/Shop and looking back I see that I have approached every new version with a little trepidation and yet after a few days didn't want to go back to the previous one.
There is one exception. I have a KPT plug in which stopped working with any version after v5 ( I didn't bother with 6 at all but moved straight to 7). I still go back to v5 to use KPT which generates some fantastic effects.
Keep on discovering !!

Being able to select multiple layers at once is a great feature in CS2. It actually saves steps for when you want to move a few layers or free transform etc and then undo the link. Linking now is more for 2 or more layers that will always be linked together. No more linking a bunch together and then have to unlink and make sure all the correct links are still in tact afterwards. The only complaint I have is that I wish the link area was in the same place as before right next to the visability checkbox. I don't like how it's done now.

As for the overall feel of CS2 I really like some of the new features such as the vanishing point and the warping of images around other objects etc.

However I am finding that although there isn't much changed it sure is a memory hog. I find it quite sluggish at times and can't run as many apps at once like I used to. I'm going to have to upgrade my memory again now.
