Photoshop CS2 file locked message

I have a similar problem as thread229-853644 where the solution was to fix the properties in the jpg. I did that and tried the Ctrl-Alt-Shft thing too. I pressed them in time and got the message to delete the settings. When I click yes, I still get the "file locked" message. If it is the scratch disk setting problem, I can't get PS open to change it. This problem started when I was opening a locked jpg from a relative. (Now none of my previous pics will open either). Any other ideas other than these that are already listed in the forums? Thanks for any help.

FYI

I pressed them in time and got the message to delete the settings

While holding down the Ctrl-Alt-Shift > start pshop and > continue holding down the Ctrl-Alt-Shift until you see the "delete Preferences".

What file is locked and when do yo get the message?? Be a bit more specific.

Sequence of events: 1)recd a jpg from a relative in an email and saved it to hard drive. 2) with Photoshop unopened, I rt clkd on the jpg and chose "open with CS2". 3) PS started loading and then stopped with the "file locked" msg. Clkd on OK and PS closed. 4) tried to open PS from the shortcut (and from explorer) and got same result. 5) researched the problem and then used the Ctrl-Alt-Shft approach, got the window that asks to "delete settings" and chose ok, PS closed again. 6) went to the jpg and displayed properties and saw "This file came from another computer and might be locked....", so I clicked "unblock". 7) retried step 2, then 4 with same results. 7) tried to open an old jpg with step 2 and same result (got file locked msg). 8) no longer can bring up the "delete settings" window with the the Ctrl-Alt-Shft approach as it looks like it deleted the settings the 1st time.
Any ideas???? Thanks again.

Thanks for being very specific, it helps but I admit I don't readily see the fix.

"This file came from another computer and might be locked....", so I clicked "unblock"

I've never seen this message but here is something you can try:

It seems like the file you received may be locked either via a camera or by the friend who sent it.

Can you again RightMouseClick and choose properties to see if "Read only" is checked? If so uncheck it.

Also my instructions to reset preferences should work every time. Make sure you press and hold Ctrl Alt Shift (in that order, ctrl shift alt won't work)

I tried all the above suggestions exactly. But no luck. PS won't load as a standalone either. Also tried jpgs I have edited previously. Can't believe that PS and ADOBE Company can make something that you can't repair. Also could not locate any .psp file to delete, my 1st try must have deleted it.

I AM VERY DISSAPOINTED WITH ADOBE. IS THERE ANOTHER PHOTO EDITOR THAT ANYONE LIKES? I'M SURE AS HECK NOT GOING TO GO OUT AND REPURCHASE CS2 (cause I'm bad and lost the original cds).

Hi

Have you tried to open the images in Windows Paint?

Can you preview the images in Windows Explorer?

Can you import the files into Microsoft Word?

If none of this work then there is something wrong with the files.

If you can open the files in other applications then just remove and reinstall Photoshop, in a new location so that you get a clean install and start over without the error.

This always works for me.

I don't have a clue what the problem is but a reinstall doesn't take as long as messing around with it.

I have used Photoshop since version 2 and I’ve never run into anything that couldn’t be fixed.

Hi agian...

This may be related...

A. When you try to save a file in Photoshop, you may receive a message saying the file could not be saved because the file is locked.

If you've already opened and started work on it, you will have to save it under a new file name, using the "Save As..." command. In the future, you should remove the read-only attribute before opening the file.

Files copied from CDs will always have a read-only attribute.

To remove it, you have to copy the file to your hard drive, go to File > Properties in your file manager, and untick the box next to "read-only."

When you use the File Browser in Photoshop, read-only files will display a lock icon above the thumbnail.
