Photoshop: clipboard export failed (Mac OS X)

I work with Mac OS X.

I use reasonbly big stuff. I copy big chunks from one PS-file to another: no problem, works like a charm.

But when I go to another application, I get the notice:

"Clipboard export failed because it is too big to export"

I think this is a very anoying notice. Is it possible to stop PS from telling me this every time I switch between applications?

In PS, under general preferences, uncheck "Export clipboard" - or remember to purge it before changing apps.

So, if I uncheck "Export Clipboard" I indeed get rid of the annoying notice. But how do I then copy-paste small stuff from PS to another app?

Same way - copy and paste. Try it out.

dmacster: if I UNcheck "Export Clipboard" I indeed get rid of the annoying "failed to export"-notice, when I copy a big chunk (say 1500 x 1500 pixels) from a PS-document and then switch to the Finder.

But now I want to copy a small piece, say 20 x 20 pixels, from a PS-document to my text-document, my database, or whatever. I can copy, but it is not possible anymore to PASTE it once outside of Photoshop.

Hmmm..it's getting difficult to fully understand the problem or solution.

If you uncheck "Export clipboard" as dmacster suggests the annoying message goes away yet you still won't be able to paste because nothing is saved in memory (clipboard).

If you don't uncheck "Export clipboard" you won't see the annoying message if the piece to copy is small enough.

But if the piece to copy is too large you get the message but still can't copy and paste.

If I've interpreted your problem correctly, I fail to see a solution that satisfies all contidtions.

Could this be a function of how much extended memory you currently have on your MAC?

Well, you can drag and drop from an open PS file to Illustrator with the export clipboard option unchecked. After checking the Photoshop help file, apparently that way uses the Illustrator clipboard as opposed to the Photoshop clipboard. Worked for me at least. And I have notice that Illustrator gives you the option of leaving info in the clipboard after closing, or just purging it.

What applications are you pasting into?

Okay - so starting with version 6, there is an optional extension (not installed with the easy install) found in the optional plugins folder for unlimited clipboard size.

I'd go there.

About the Unlimited Clipboard Size Plug-In

Some applications, including the Finder, become very crash prone in the presence of large clipboards. Hence, Adobe® Photoshop® software imposes a 4 megabyte limit on the size of any clipboard PICT it exports.

Installing "Unlimited Clipboard Size" removes this limit thereby allowing the user to export larger PICT clipboards but also increasing the chances that other applications will crash because of the amount of data on the clipboard.

To install the Unlimited Clipboard Size plug-in:
1) Make sure the Adobe Photoshop application is not currently running.

2) Copy the Unlimited Clipboard Size plug-in into the Adobe Photoshop Plug-Ins > Adobe Photoshop Only folder.

3) Launch Photoshop. The Unlimited Clipboard Size plug-in will be loaded.
