Photos are square when opened in PS 7.0

I use Photoshop 7.0. Something has changed recently on my setup and I don't seem to be able to resolve it. lately when I Open and image it opens as a perfectly square image. For tyhe life of me I cannot find which option or what has chnaged that causes my photos to be square and stretched. Can anybody point me to what I need to change to correct this? I have another machine runing the same version ad it works normally, that is the images are the correct aspect ratio as taken and the faces are not stretched.

One reason could be that your monitor resolution has been changed to a different proportion

No I checked that, I also noticed that when I try to use the trim tool or the square marquee and set the width and hight to something like 8x10 I am only able to drag out a square. Any bosy hav another suggestion?
