I im not really sure how to explain this but ok.

so I have an object drawn in illustrator then i have another image that is a .jpg(the image is of scratches to make the illustrator file have that vintage look)i know how to put the two together in photoshop but then if i do it that way the illustrator file looses all of its quality.
any help on ,merging the two images?

File->Place in Illustrator.

This very basic task is covered in the help files and manual.

i tried that but it didn't work because the file is a black backgroung with white scratches.

in photoshop i open up my image then go to the channels then create a new alpha channel then i press crtl+command to generate a selection of the scratches,then fill that selection a white but i dont know how, if possible, to do that in illustrator.

...so i take it you are trying to create a distressed look in illustrator with an imported image...

...would the live trace function suffice on the imported image of the scratches?

...getting it into a vector drawing is the way to go to achieve a non resolution dependant image and therefore maintaining quality...

...this link may help as long as you have CS2:

That is exactly what I want to do but I only have adobe cs!
Is there any other way to do that without cs2?
Does anyone want to sell me a cs2? PLEASE!

...as a work around for now, i would be happy to trace it for you here on CS2, then you can import to CS and do the necessaries...

...if it is more than 5mb image then it won't come through my mail box...

...my mail is: ap (at) apepp (dot) info
