Photo Gallery Thumbnails

Is there a limit to the number of photos you can include in the photo gallery? I have about 30-40 pictures, but when I click ok and the progress bar pops up, it says, "Generating Thumbnails for Photo Gallery" and the progress bar goes to the end, but then hangs. It never does anything more than that. I only recently had this problem. All of the new pics have been resized to the ones that were already in the gallery.

I've restarted my computer and even reinstalled the program, but it still does the same thing...Any ideas/suggestions?

I am having the same problem as this member, on 2 PCs, a desktop and an IBM laptop.

I create a new normal page and then click on insert, web component, photo gallery. The horizontal, montage and vertical options all work correctly. It is only the slide show option that is a problem.

I select slide show and click Finish. In the properties box, I click on add, then pictures from files which brings up the file open box. I navigate to the folder that contains the photos, select them and click open. The file names (jpg format) appear in the add box. This is where the problem occurs - the progress dialog box appears that says "Generating thumbnails for photo gallery" the progress bar goes all the way to the right and simply hangs there.

I've waited several minutes and it never completes. The progress box cancel button does not work. I can only end it by clicking on the red X in the upper right corner.

In Googling this problem, I have found only a handful of people with it on various forums or tech-help web sites. None of these people were ever given a solution. It is not in the MS knowledge base.

I am running FP 2002 SP3, Win XP Pro Version 2002 with SP2 with all current MS Office and Win XP updates on both PCs.

I think the problem is installation sensitive, that is, a conflict with some other software. I am playing around with removing items from the Windows startup group and rebooting to see if it matters - results pending.

We would appreciate any help on this. THANKS!

I just finished some testing on my laptop. Through MSConfig, I disabled loading everything in Startup and rebooted. Same problem with trying to create a slide show.

I then rebooted into Safe Mode and tried the Slide Show. Same problem.

Guess it isn't a conflict with other programs.

I am having the same problem.

Start a blank webpage, tried to add a photo gallery through web components and it hangs at the 'Generating Thumbnails for photo gallery' stage.

I've tried fewer photos, moving the photos to my index page directory, reducing the size of the photos but all without success.

Is there anybody who might have a suggestion for a fix?

do not use photo gallery in front page. Use a secondary product such as jalbum to generate your photo album. Front page's photo gallery is unreliable and most of the time doesn't work.

I've tried using the JAlbum thing and it just doesn't work for me...maybe I'm not doing it correctly, but I gave up. I decided against the photo gallery and just inserted photos...

The only confusing thing about jalbum is selecting the source location of the files and the destination location which should be the same location. After the album is created there is an index page in the destination folder and that is what you set your hyperlink to.
