have an electra elite ipk system, single cabinet. they tell me every morning ext 118 is making a constant ring or chirp like an alarm system does when you enter a building and before you turn it off. to make it stop they simply lift the handset and put it back down. any ideas on what this could be?

thanks, tim

Is there anything in the LCD display when this occurs? Are ther eany LED's on or flashing at the same time?

Yes, what does the display say? Is this occurring at exactly the same time? Do they have a Voicemail/ACD/IVR or other type of integration?

finally got an answer from them on this. they tell me that the speaker light is on in the mornings and all they have to do is press it to hang the phone up. so, the sound they are hearing is the off-hook timeout alert. is there anything that would make a phone go off-hook on speaker by itself?

thanks, tim

yea, that is what i tried to tell them. but, every morning....i find that a little hard to believe.

Maybe...just maybe...the cleaning lady sneaks in and places a call to Guatemala to talk to her distant cousin who only has 4 fingers on his left hand, but that's a different story. She does this every morning, like ritual.

Oh yeah, and also sits back in the leather lounge chair with her feet up on the desk all the while using speakerphone and her arms crossed behind their head, twirling the handset cord, you know, "Jerry McGuire closing the deal" style, and then converses for about an hour or so...

...but then, suddenly gets interrupted by the first employee arriving and quickly dashes off to look busy and productive, feather dusting some random office equipment. The cousin is like..."hola? saludo ?" but after no response, hangs up.

The phone was in speakerphone and eventually times out resulting in the systems internal reorder tone.

Yep, thats what I think is happening!

The first thing I would do is swap the phone with another set in the building and see if the issue follows the phone or stays at that ext. If it follows the phone = bad set replace it. If it stays at the ext, change the base cord from the jack to the phone and see what happens. If your still having the issue, change the jack and the cable pair feeding that ext. If after that your still having the problem, swap ESI cards in the cabinet. If that doesn't fix it move that ext to a different port in the system. If after all this you still have the problem it's the cleaning lady!!

Good suggestion MercuryComm, it had crossed my mind that a bad hook switch could result in the off hook alert but in this scenario it's clearly the speakerphone mode that is active which puzzled me because this can't be actived from another station via voice over or paging, etc. The only things I come up with:
1) End user didn't end a speakerphone call properly
2) Defective terminal but never experienced this one b4.
3) Sticky speaker button and every time the train goes by and rattles the building it activates???
