Phone Firmware Update - TFTP or Sig Server 1

Hello,

We are currently testing the download of IP phone (1100 series) configurations, etc - all is going well and we are comfortable with the processes, etc.

We have since tried to update the phone firmware using the TFTP server instead of the sig server distribution - again all is going well, the firmware downloads, etc but the problem we have is that once the firmware is downloaded the phone connects to the sig server which then attempts to downgrade the firmware. Can anyone advise how to stop this process, remove the firmware from the sig server distribution so that the firmware is only downloadable from the TFTP server.

We may prefer to use the TFTP approach as this keeps all firmware off the sig server and we can then selectably upgrade phones per segment, etc...

Any advice/thoughts would be appreciated.

Configure a policy on the sig server to not downgrade the firmware.

Not sure on how to change the policy but you could just update the sig serv to the same fw version as tftp. Then its a non issue.

...then we wouldn't need to use TFTP - missing the point. The whole issue for us is to be able to control firmware allocations on a subnet basis (instead of when a phone resets..) TFTP makes it more manageable.

Like gwebster states - if we knew how to change the sig server policy to upload if newer instead of forcing the firmware, that would ensure an adequate 'base' version and any additional rollouts could be managed by the TFTP server.

Grab a copy of "Troubleshooting Guide for Distributors" from

http://www.nortel.com/support

and look up "umsSetFirmwarePolicy".

thanks for the info - having tried this several times, I must be doing something wrong as the firmware still gets downgraded when the phone connects to the sig server. No matter what commands i try the policy still shows as Upgrade ANY - I will rethink what we are trying to acheive...
