Hi,

I am trying to set up a Cisco 801 Router on the same line (BRI) as an ISDN telephone. The line has two numbers so I intend for the ISDN telephone to be used solely with the second channel/number leaving the first one free for the router.

The problem is that the router dials sometimes dials out on the second channel which means anyone phoning the telephone will get the engaged tone.

Is there any way to force the router to dial out only on the first channel of the ISDN line? or is there a better way to achieve the same result without buying any extra hardware?

Thanks for the help

With BRI's, you can't control which channel is used -
the carrier does. When we want to make a call, a SETUP is sent, and the telco responds with an indication of which
channel (1 or 2) to use.

regards,
Alain

Is there no way to make sure the analog line uses SPID1? We pay a set rate that only includes data on one channel and voice and data on the other, so if the analog phone picks up SPID2, which is data only, then it doesn't work.
