I trying to add a V1 Phone 16 to a IPO 500 V2 the documentation says they are compatible. The module is being added to the system inventory but all I get is battery on my test set and some of the ports return a high pitched tone. I am using a short shielded patch cable as instructed. Any suggestions.

Have you upgraded the firmware in the expansion module?

No I did not, will an upgrade automatically apply along with the main control unit or do I need to purchase an upgrade license for the Phone 16 unit itself? Thanks

You need a essential edition license (not the Small one) and upgrades are done automaticly, no user action needed.
Power all units down, first power up the Phone 16 first until you get a steady or blinking green light, then power up the IP 500v2 and wait for the orange blinking lights.
Then it should work.

yes I do have the essentials edition. when I check the inventory its still showing no IP address. all I'm getting is battery but no dial tone. The extension numbers do show 16 have been added

let me double check that when I get back to the office.when I went to the upgrade menu it shows that the phone 16 module as a software level of 5. 0. I tried just upgrading the phone 16 module but I got an error.

well I tried the instructions that you gave me and I'm not showing the users or the extensions I did check to make sure I was using the correct cable it's a cat 5e STP booted and shielded 350MHz 1 foot cable. I also check the upgrades to see if the module would pop up there but I don't see it. I have this plugged into expansion port 1. here's the strange thing I wanted to make sure that the phone 16 module was working so I put it on another system which was an IPO version 8.0 I show the module I showed the extensions and the users but I'm having the same issue of only getting battery and no dial tone. On this 9.0 unit its not even showing the module as being part of the active hardware inventory. I double check the compatibility hardware chart and it does show that this module should work in this hardware with this software. I also found a video on YouTube from metro line how to connect a module and I'm doing it exactly as instructed.

It could just be a defective unit. I've used a 406 DS30 in a 9.0 and it worked fine. Plug and play. The IPO creates all the extensions and users for you.
