Hi guys,

I have a phaser 860 that constantly reports a jam in the paper tray....but there is no jam. After boot, it feeds the first sheet thru and then reports a jam in the paper tray. Pulling the paper tray out and then pushing in again, and again it will print the first sheet and report a jam. I have swapped the clutches. and also checked all the photo cells in the path are working.

It started to do this intermittently and then gave up completely. Paper pick appears fine, the only worry is when the paper tray is opened after an error, the top sheet has moved 1/8th inch, but not enough to trigger any sensor.

It is almost as if there is a timer on a sensor for the paper to be clear of the path which is not sending a signal quickly enough. After 2 or 3 trys, the printer switches off and resets reporting error code 07.005.47.2400. Any help or ideas would be very appreciated.

Sorry the code is 07.005.47.24010....missed out a 1

The 07,005.47 is the Drum Maintanence Clutch. The original clutch is prone to failure, and I would imagine you have an original one in your printer. Xerox part number is

Many Thanks Tim, I will check it tomorrow, but can you explain why this would give a paper tray jam error? Just so I can understand whats going on.....

I am really grateful for your reply though....

On the Maintanence Drawer, where the oile roller and counter is, there are some pins on the side. Inside the printer, there are arms on a shaft that lift the pins, and lift the oil roller to the drum.

The Drum Maintanence clutch controls the lifting of the oil roller. What is happening is that the drum is being activated when it shouldn't and the oil roller is lifting, slowing down the print process. Because if you've watched, the oiling of the drum is noticable slower than speed at which paper is fed. Because the process is slowed down, paper is not activating the necessary sensors at the correct time, and the printer then reports a jam condition.

Also, while you are inside the printer, if you take the left cover off, nead the top on a metal plate, is the Transfix Solenoid. There is a pad that sits under the solenoids arm, and it gets sticky. Unroute the wires that feed over this plate, and remove the 2 T15's that hold it in place. Remove the arm on the solenoid, be careful of the spring. And put a small piece of tape over the black rubber pad. Reassemble. This sticky solenoid is typically associated with a paper exit jam condition where the paper does not fully exit the printer.

Sir,

You are truly a genius with these printers. I will order a new clutch ASAP, but for the moment I disassembled the original one and cleaned and scored the plate. Seems to work fine for now.

Many Many Many Thanks, I am very grateful!!!

Opps, was rereading my post to you, and the sticky solenoid I mentioned is actually on the Right side of the printer, not the left. The DM Clutch is left side, as you know.

I've been working on these printers for a little over a year now, and unless the printhead fails, there really is only 3 problems I've seen with these printers.

Problem 1: The Drum Maintanence Cluth.

Problem 2: The Sticky Solenoid on the right side.

Problem 3: The Lamps in the Paper Preheat Assy.**

** As for these lamps, they burn out. They are very easy replacements, and you can find them at any lighting store. Occassionally, the contacts for the lamp corrode, and you need to replace the entire assy. But for the most part, the lamps just burn out.
