Can someone walk me through the steps for print head removal on the Phaser 850DP? Which screws need to be removed? There are 3 screws on each end of the unit, the center screws on each end are in black plastic 'towers'. I do not want to damage the print head or trash any 'adjustments'... I want to remove it and clean it out, I believe the ink wells may have been contaminated with dust. Anyone able to help? In the event that my print head has 'bit the big one', where can I buy another one? Thanks in advance!

Undo the 2 screws in the plastic towers, they are spring loaded and will not come out. Do not loosed the 2 screws on either side of these as that will cause the printhead to drum adjust to change and can create some problems. once the 2 screws are released and the connectors removed turn the x axis motor which moves the head from side to side and position the head in the middle of its travel, then you can lift the head out, it may be tight and you may need to inch it out one sid eat a time to get it fully out. If you cock one side to much it will stick.

Thanks Marty... the printhead is out, however one of the two mounting screws broke off in the mounting post... is there an easy way to replace the X-axis shaft and printhead mounts? It looks like it's a one piece unit and that a complete disassembly of at least one side of the printer chasis is required! Is it possible to unscrew the mounting ferrel with the broken screw and replace it? Also what is the 'gap' setting between the printhead and the drum supposed to be? Thanks for your help!

I do not think that you can replace that part. Also on the 850 you should not have to adjust the head to drum gap.

Unfortunately the part you are referring to is not available for replacement. Everything around that x axis shaft is set at the factory. Sorry for the bad news but what you are left with is a parts chassis. As far as teh gap for the head to drum, that is preset also but it can be adjusted if needed, Though I do not know specific gap a safe preset is when you loosen the screws use a flat blade screwdriver and align the oval slot to the point where each side is even with each other. Do the same for each side.

Thanks for the info guys... I managed to clean the printhead by carefully scraping the build-up off with a plastic putty knife and by heating the unit manually to melt the ink and then using an air compressor to blow the head ports out. I adjusted the printhead like you suggested and believe it or not the printer is back online and printing fine (minus one mounting screw)! I'll have to drill out the broken screw and re-thread the mount asap... (had a print job to deliver)... I have more time now for repairs. Thanks again for the help!
