Phaser 850 error 15,004.45 - too cold?

Judging from the info in the knowledge base, this error seems to be tripped by improper drum temperature.

I've been able to get rid of it by turning off the printer for a while, & powering back up.

The specs state that the operating environment should be 50-90 deg F (10-35 deg C).
The room it's in has gotten colder recently, sometimes as low as 60 deg F (15.5 deg C).
I get the feeling this low room temp may be the cause.
Does anyone have experience with temperatures in this range causing this error?
Any other info on what can cause this error would be much appreciated.

Generaly room temprture does not cause this error, but excess ink build up on the sensor can, the knoledge base refered to explains how to clean this.

I had already tried cleaning the sensor, as well as all the other solutions mentioned in the knowledge base, but none worked.

I put a portable heater near the printer for a day to raise the temp in the vicinity & see if it would help - the error didn't come back.

I got the HVAC dept. to raise the set point for the thermostat in our dept. -- The temp. in the printer room now runs 66-73 deg F (19-23 deg C), instead of the 60-68 (15.5-20 C) it had jumped down to when the A/C kicked in with the warmer weather.

Since then, I haven't had a single error, so it seems my guess was right (unless it was a combination of cleaning the sensor and raising the temperature)

It's not surprising really, since the problem arose when it got noticeably colder in the room.

Seems like they weren't quite conservative enough when they specified an operating environment down to 50 degrees F

Where is the sensor located. I'm getting the exact same error on my 860DP. Can I just clean it or do I buy a new one and if I buy one where can I get it? Thanks, John

The drum temperature sensor rests against the drum.
There are very specific instructions for the somewhat delicate cleaning procedure in the knowledge base for the 840 & 850 models.

However, the same error number for the 860 does not lead to the same knowledge base info (just says to take/send it to a service center). It's entirely possible that the 860 release shifted the error numbers, causing 15,004.45 to mean something different on an 860 than an 850, even though they're very similar.

I would at least verify with someone in-the-know about 860's, get a service manual, or call xerox tech support before messing around with your drum & temp sensor.

You need to replace your drum/paper pre-heater. Also make sure that the printer is not located next to an air vent or air-conditioner outlet.

Good luck

I was having the same problem with my phaser 860, but having found out how emxpert got his working i tried the same thing but putting a floor heater close to the printer switched the printer off for 5 mins and then on again leaving the heater on (pointing towards the printer from the right hand side of the printer) and when the printer when through it's warm up cycle it was fine.
So it worked, meaning that it is the halogen bulbs that eed to be changed with in the drum of the printer.
