When I run the Light Stripes Test, I consistently get no bar for number 181 in the Magenta section. I have cleaned the print head wiper. In thread723-1086300 (which is archived) someone mentions performing a "Jet Substitution". Does anyone know how this is done?

TIA,

Off the top of my head, I'm not sure how to set that up, but I do have a question for you.

Are you using genuine Xerox Ink Sticks?

The very first thing that popped into my head when I saw that it was always one specific jet, was what kind of ink sticks are you using.

I'm an Authorized Xerox Tech for this product, and have seen this problem mostly with non-xerox ink.

Thanks for your response. Initially, non-genuine Xerox ink sticks were being used. I have since replaced the ink sticks with genuine Xerox ink sticks and ran many print jobs, cleaning cycles, and Light Stripes tests in hopes that it would clear the problem, but to no avail.

Could it be something else?

TIA,

There has been talk on this list that changing from generic to Xerox inks can cause problems. Personally, I use generic inks exclusively and I find that I get pale stripes that come and go for no apparent reason.

Guaranteewise, I think Xerox assumes responsibility for up to thirteen jets malfunctioning.

Whatever the cause of striping, these machines requiring purging of the jets - and that soon becomes extremely expensive.

Couldn't Xerox find a way of purging just those jets which are malfuntioning ?

Thanks for the reply. You mention that Xerox guarantees up to 13 jets? This printer is 7 months out of warranty and I would be interested in finding out if Xerox does indeed offer such a guarantee. Do you have any information on this?

TIA,

Xerox will not assume any responcibility if you are using generic ink, regardless of warranty status. I have seen it many, many times. I'd suggest figuring out who makes your generic ink. The name that comes to mind, is Media Sciences. They make a lot of the ink packaged under different names.

They offer a warranty on their ink, and will gladly replace your printhead and pay for the tech to come out and do the task. However, you are at the mercy of Media Sciences to send the printhead. I've had customers who got the printhead in a matter of days, and some that have waited 3 weeks for a printhead.

I have only good words to say for the after sales support from Media Science - and I don't even live in North America.

It would appear Xerox's warranty re generic inks has changed since I last looked:

Thank you both for your replies. I have found that the ink is really from Media Sciences (Thanks Timothy) and I have started a warranty claim with them. I will post to let you know how it goes.

I recently had some work re: light stripes. It has been a constant nagging problem and I finally called for service. They were great. I am glad I bought the extra multi-year warranty.

After replacing the cracked camshaft, pivot plate and some other cleaning, it worked great for about 2 wks. They are coming back tomorrow to replace the printhead and some other things which I don't remember. The evil stripes are back!

I have always used Xerox ink, 100%. Color matching is too critical for us and I can't afford to experiment.

As for the heads, the tech that was out here had asked me about the ink. In our conversation I recall him saying Media Science had a requirement that a minimum of 8 jets go bad before they replace parts. I can't vouch, just reporting. His other comment was that it isn't common for that many to go bad so it seemed like a shallow guaranty with escape room on their part.

Good luck on the fixing.

Nick

Have you tried running the jetfix snippets yet? I've had really good luck with them. They can be found (with instructions) on the drivers page for that printer on the Xerox website. Also update the firmware.

Talk to media science and see if they will replace the Print head wiper blade too.

Thanks jdwvw,
My bad, I didn't even look at Xerox's website. Unfortunately, after running the jetfix snippets, my magenta jet is still malfunctioning, so I'm stuck with going with Media Science's warranty claim.

Can anybody tell me whether the jets are less problematic on the new Phasers - 6120 and 8500 ?
What has been updated since the 8400 ?
