When trying to run diagnostic tests, it does fine till it gets to a certain point, then hangs and does nothing. It looks like it does it when it is trying to locate x-axis origin ( which is what it says on the display ). I have to shut it down to unlock it. Any ideas?

Why are you trying to run diags? What happens when you power it up in customer mode?

I am wanting to check the cap/wipe/purge system to make sure it is operating correctly and as I am going to have to replace the printhead for poor print quality (non recoverable jets), I wanted to do the checks in the book. Currently have tried cap vacuum test and run auto diagnostics. It starts to do the tests and then just stops. I left it overnight and came back this morning and it was still locked up like it was in the middle of a test and went no further. You have to shut it down to unlock it. The customer says it fails to print jobs sometimes and this might be related to that. Any help?

More information. I have swapped every board in the machine with another printer, one at a time, have swapped maintenance trays also. It made no difference. I have also went ahead and replaced the printhead. The print quality is now excellent, but the problem of hanging up is still there. What else could possibly cause this?

without hooking it up to external diags i could not tell you. you should check with your local ASP. They can run external diags and tell you what is going on when it hangs.

If you replaced all the boards AND the printhead. I don't really see any way you could still have the same problem.
Unless you have TWO boards that are bad. In that case I would change the power supply, main control board. both I/O
boards, and the power control board as a group and see if the problem goes away. If it doe you have more than one bad board

You say the print quality looks good, but if the printer hangs how do you get a print out? At what point does the printer hang? What message is displayed on the front panel when it hangs? Does it hang when trying to print internal prints or from work station or both?

Marty he says it hangs when he is trying to run the cap vac test in diags.
