I have experience with Phaser 780s... most Kinko's have them. I am looking into buying a 2nd hand tabloid printer and I've come across 780's and 2135's in the same price range.

Question is: Which is better? What's the difference?

I really appreciate anyone's help on this.

Depends on what you're looking for..
2135 has speed but was designed as an office machine
780 doesn't have the speed but was built as a machine for graphics artists

I would go for a 780, if you know how to take care of it.. it'll be your best friend.

Trust me. The engine is NOT up to what Graphic Artists demand. We have maintained this engine under every label since it was released. If you must use the engine go for the Xerox version rather than the Tektronix as a more powerful RIP was employed.

When Tektronix purchased the engine from Xerox, they made Xerox make changes to it.. so that it WOULD be up to standard for graphics artists. At that time, it was the fastest print engine with the best print quality for that time.

I've used the 780 extensively at work. We then added the xerox 1235 and now replaced the 780 with the 7700. Both of the xerox's printed extremely faster but I haven't been able to match the colors worth crap. The 780 was slower, had tendancy to jam if overused, and had smearing probs if overused, but the color matching was right on the money.
