Hi, few weeks ago I swapped printer cartridge 2 and 3 (blue and magenta), and the #3 showed 3% life remaining. The swapping didn't work well so I replaced a new magenta cartrige, however the #3 still showed 3 % life remaining. I didn't pay too much attention on this wrong message; yesterday my printer asked me to replace a new print cartridge 3, I tried swapping #3 to #2, #4, and it shows it (the one I just replaced 2 weeks ago) still have 97% life remaining. I replaced a new print cartridge to #3, but the 'replace print cartridge 3' won't go a way.

I have tried unplug the network cable, restart, entered service mode; I also have a service manul which I tried to find if there is way for me to reset print cartridge 3. Nope! I couldn't find anything.

Please help!

I have the same problem with my xerox 7700, I did the service mode thing you said and cleared out all tech faults but still no good. What else Can I try?

Well I think I solved the problem. The new drum I put in was actually "expired" or something. I put in another drum I had and it works now.

I actually moved #3 to #4 and then did that service mode/ clear tech rep fault.

#4 started flashing "replace #4".... meaning, the new cartridge that was in #3 was now in #4, and the error message changed too.. so that means the cartridge was defective.

Seems like there are a lot of defective cartridges out there or something. To get in service mode, you need to press the RETURN and I (info) button with the printer off. Turn the printer on while holding these two buttons. When the printer turns on, let go of the buttons.

Careful what you do here! You can't "undo" changes! Get a service manual first!

Yes, toners are mis-handled, and dropped, causing seams to break open. Also, there is a shelf life to all toners of about a year.
