Phaser 740 (colour) + HD (IDE)

Hi all,

I have a Phaser 740 (color) which works well, but I have since noticed something. Let me explain, the printers Startup page gives you info about it, I have noticed that this also states that the printer can use a SCSI drive (which is not installed), and an IDE drive which is also not installed. My question is with referance to the IDE drive, does anyone know / have info on how this drive is fitted and where one could get one, or can I use an IDE hard drive of my own ?

I have looked in the PDF manuals on the printer and can not find any info on the IDE drive, only SCSI info is in these manuals, so if anyone can help the info would be most welcome here.

If your printer has the DP - Functions (1200 dpi) so you can plug a scsi disk external at the printers back. At the N - Funktions printer (600 dpi) there is also a plug, but its dead than. Here you can take every external scsi-hd - best about 2 GB - you have. Some versions of the (laserwriter-) drivers from the macintosh computer recognize a printers harddisk and offer to format them. This is the easiest way to do it. Otherwise you have to send a little ps-file (Utilities on the printers softwaredriver-disk or via internet from

http://www.officeprinting.xerox.com)

to the printer via the printers NETWORK-CARD(!) to format the disk.

To connect an non tektronix ide hd internal, I have no expierience.

The only use you have from the printers hard-disk is you can print faster sorted documents, the printer can store the ripped docs on the hd - you must than choose "collate" in the printerdriver, not "sort" from your print menu of your office software.
