Have you done a NVRAM reset? If so it sounds as if either the NVRAM or the engine control board is bad. If you don't know how to do a reset let me know.
I also have this problem. The LCD showed the color imaging units at end of life, I replaced them and it still said imaging units at end of life, but it showed the correct install date (7/5/07). I reset the NVRAM and it still showed the problem. I shut the printer down and took out and reinstalled the Imaging Units and when I turn it back on I get the SRAM error.
I've had the same problem, and was able to get back up by unplugging the power cord for 5-10 minutes. It correctly booted at that point. We will reset the NVRAM, and if that does not work, replace the engine control board.
1}Engine Bd. and DC cont. have the NVRAM. They have to get in sync. If one is corrupted, it can ruin both, becaus they cross-read their info.
2} If one or the other is replaced, the NVRAM may still get messed up. Knowing for sure which one is really the bad one is hard, and Xerox suggests replace both.
3} Sometimes several re-starts are necessary for them to get in sync.
