The error install or reseat toner cartridge comes up at start up. Also the printer is very noisy near the black cartridge. Is this because its trying to find the cartridge? In diagnostics it says the yellow and magenta are missing also. Please let me know what to do next.

Hello, did you find any solution to this issue?

I am having a similar problem with our Phaser 7700, in which the control panel cycles through the following set of mistakenly identified errors and will not print:

Print Cartridge 4 is missing
Print Cartridge 3 is missing
Print Cartridge 2 is missing
Print Cartridge 1 is missing
Close Door B (lower left)
Tray 1 is missing

Of course, we have reseated each many times, and even installed some new print cartridges, all without a fix.

Anyone else with a similar issue? Your thoughts would be much appreciated. Dave

Xerox identified this issue for the Phaser 7700 with Document ID #97428 at:

with the following description:

"The Printer's Front Panel Scrolls Through Print Cartridge 1,2,3,4 Missing and/or Tray 1 Missing and/or Waste Cartridge Missing and/or Close Door B or Close Right Door"

But, the suggestions to open and close the drawers and reseat the printer cartridges do not work, as their only help is to note:

Solution (try these steps in order)

1. Turn the printer off, wait 30 seconds and turn the power back on

2. Phaser 7700 Printer: Open and close all access doors

3. Phaser 7700 Printer: Check to see if print cartridge is installed

4. Phaser 7700 Printer: Reseat the print cartridge

Any other thoughts on what might work?

David

Check the transfer belt, especially if a grinding noise is heard. On the underside of the belt along the edge there is a guide bead and sometimes this will detatch from the belt itself and not allow the transfer belt to rotate properly. Also the imaging drums can become clogged with toner this will create drag on the transfer belt thus causing a grinding noise and also reseat imaging drum or toner cartridge message. If you have to replace the imaging drum I would suggest the toner cartridge at the same time.

Thank you, marty5261. We began checking the transfer belt, guide bead, etc...

... and it turns out we had a very simple solution: the lower door B needed to be firmly closed on the left, actually "snapping" it into place.

With a firm close, all the other error messages about the four print cartridges and tray 1 went away and now we're printing!

We must have shut this door about 30 or 40 times before this -- sometimes persistence does pay off.
