I have two 32meg FPM 60ns simms. Part number on them is MT16D832G-6. I have tried them in the phaser 560 printer all I get on the LCD screen is a row of black squares. I know from the xerox site that proprietry simms are said to the only ones that will work. I also know that plenty of vendores offer memory upgrades. One of the vendors states that it is FPM 60ns memory. So why do I get a problem with the simms I have. I notice that there is a zero ohm surface moubt bridge on the boards, that can be placed in a different position. Can anybody help with this problem. The official simms are rather expensive.

Unfortunately the 560 was designed to used proprietary memory simms and off the self memory will not work. Why you get black bars on the display is due to that, the main board does not recognize them and so can not get past the post hence the error. The 740/750 as well as the 840 series were the first to allow off the shelf memory.

I suppose the memory issue with a phaser isn't that different from the HP case. On a simm module there are 4 bridges coding the simm. When you've got a correctly coded simm from Xerox and take an other brand simm of the same size and parity, just code the simm the same way as the original.
