I have a Phaser 350. I changed the page layout to 'landscape' on WindowsXP to print. Since then, even changing back to portrait, my printing looks like someone is vibrating it.

It's not ghosting, it's more like skipping. I've cleaned the heads and such, start test and light stripes tests are perfect.

I've reinstalled the drivers...I've returned the printer to factory defaults. The problem lies within the printer itself...any suggestions would be appreciated. Printer only has 655 copies, and I love it dearly.

Is it printing the page out correcly whether portrait or landscape? If you print a test page such as the start up or config page are these good? Does the top of the page look like a saw tooth patern? If so it could be a problem with either the x-axis motor which drives the head from side to side or the y- axis encoder which reads the position of the drum. Sometimes the encoder disk becomes dirty and will blurry ptints. You can take off teh cover of teh encoder and just blow the dust out and see if it helps. Also the positioning of the disk can be critical, it needs to ride in the center of the sensor , if it rubs on either side these same things can occurr.

Hi, Marty....thanks SO much for your response! The cleaning page and the light stripes test page are the only pages that print correctly, regardless of paper orientation.

The printer seems to be adding this character |||||| along and intermixed with the text. I will open the printer and try your suggestions. If you have any other thoughts, I'd appreciate those as well. It must just be my luck, because after months of inactivity, I *really* need to use this printer.

Ok based on what you tell me it sounds like you should be able to run the clean for ink smears and that should resolve it. if not i suggest using alcohol and manually cleaning the upper feed rollers. It sounds like you have ink on those rollers and using either of teh above procedures should help you.

OK, Marty.... :) Just thought I'd let you know that the problem was that I had the waste tray in backwards. Just thought it might help someone else.
