I just picked up four Phaser 350s mil surplus, they were supposed to be in "A4" condition (which means new or like-new condition, ready to issue), however not ONE of them powers up properly. Basically what they do when the switch is turned on is have the fans come on and the top text row on the display is just filled with black boxes. Neither of the lights comes on either. These units will just sit there in a coma until the power switch is turned off, then they hesitate a couple of seconds like a normal Phaser and turn off.

Things I've done and noticed while troubleshooting:

1. The transport lock cams were not locked down when I picked them up from the depot.
2. None have more than 1/4" of a Colorstick in any of the bays. But I have a Phaser 360 that seems virtually identical to the 350s, it has no problem powering up with no ink (I took all the ink out to see what it would do).
3. I have reseated the boards, and even dismantled two of the units (I love how easily they come apart for service!) to check for loose connections or other apparent problems.
4. Read up on Xerox's site, which wasn't overly helpful for this particular issue.

Any ideas? It seems odd that all of them would die in exactly the same manner.

can you tell me what the lights on the back are dooing. meaning, on the back you have 4 dip switch and on bold sites there is a green light. 1 short flach is 1 1 long flach is 5. tel me the sequence and i will try to find out what the problem is. also the same problem occurs whit no or bad memory.

Okay, I checked the memory with a "known good" SIMM out of an HP printer (hopefully they're the same basic type) and there's no change. On the back, on the left side as you face the panel, there's a "status" LED that is just flashing on and off at even intervals (which seem relatively short). On the side near the DIP switches (only two on this unit), the LED is on solid.

Could there be an issue with the way the printer was used, i.e., if it was set up on the parallel interface, would it act like this if suddenly it gets no parallel feedback? That was the closest symptom that the Xerox site listed, but I don't have parallel connectors to even try to hook it up and turn the unit on after the computer has booted.

The to leds on the the back of the printer give an indication of the heald status. If the leds near the dip switches are lit on continu this then dis means thad 1 the processor of the printer is broken or het RIP engine.
In this case the only thing you could do is replacing the mainbord. the way this printer is used paralel or network is in no efect to this problem

Please check 2 DIP switches at rear are up (push pins 'upward-in'). If in Service mode (down), you get rectangles on top row.
