As it says above. I have a 3905 set on a 7.5 SMG cpmgc card that randomly will start to just ring with a continuous ring, no pause or break between the ring. The user can only get it to stop by unplugging it. We have the latest firmware on the set and have tried many different flavors of firmware. The SMG and Core CS1k have all been patched to the latest Patches and SP as of September 2013.

Trouble shooting 101 has been completed so let’s ask more than the basic questions.

Trunking is sent to site by local T1 and a T1 from the core CS1k. There is one copper trunk card used for backup out dialing. Each trunk has been tested and metered. (Trouble shooting 101 is complete).

I have read the following threads that explain the same issue, but no resolution was defined.

Anyone with a resolution?

Encountered something similar on a remote shelf years ago that required the cards be upgraded to "CA" vintage.

looking for an update! post bump. has anyone every solved this issue?

thanks ntTech50, i will check card vintage.

Is the MGC loadware current? Also lots of patches released since September.

yes, we updated Loadware on the CPMGC and all the patches, and all Linux SU's and SP's last week (Feb 2014).

seems like a common problem, but no resolution.

I have had the same issue going on 4 years, CS1000E Release 5.5. It does not happen all of the time just random reports from those who actually report it, others just unplug and plug back in. The digital phones in question have nothing in common as far as firmware levels, most of them are at the same level. I think we are fairly up to date as far as patches. The vendor and I have tried tracing a 3904 that was reported to have this happen "all the time" but we had no luck after a couple weeks. And of course it would randomly select another digital set. My vender states they haven't heard of this problem but my tech seems to recall other accounts doing the same thing. It doesn't happen all of the time, just random continuous ringing that affects cards/phones all over the system. I also would be curious if anyone has heard of an official "fix".

I ran into this with one customer that had 30 sites network together, all OPT11C upgrade from 4.5 to 5.5. Random digital phones would ring, but only on the 3904 and 3905. A temp fix was to give everyone 2616 until we could determine what was causing the problem. We eventually replace the cabinets to fix some of the sites, others, the customer chose to stay with the 2616. I can't say what the fix was since we replace every piece of hardware and the ringing would still happen from time to time, sometime within a few days, other times... a week or 2 before it would happen again. Eventually, the ringing stopped when we upgraded to 6.0.

The funny thing was, the sites that was experiencing problems, once we took them out of the network and made them a stand-alone, no phantom ringing. We only did this as a test on a couple of sites, Avaya couldn't provide any answers, all they wanted to do was throw hardware at it.
