I just upgraded my computer to
cpu: Intel Core2Duo E6600
mb: MSI P6n 650i SLI Platinum
Video card: EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS 640mb
hard drive: 2 WD Caviar SE16 320GB SATA Raid0
memory: Corsair XMS2 TWIN2X2048-6400C4 @4-4-4-12
optical drives:Lite-On LH20-A1S SATA
Yamaha 3200e IDE
mouse: Logitech G5 Laser mouse
OS: WindowsXP SP2 updated to mid May

The issue is that System Information reports a Problem Device Logitech Compatible PS/2 mouse.
There is no PS/2 mouse connected to the computer.
I have tried to uninstall the PS/2 mouse in Device Manager.
This works until I reboot, then the problem returns. I have also tried to create a new hardware profile with the same results.
The problem is independent of the Set Point software. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, and updated to noavail.

I have the latest Bios and Drivers for the motherboard.

Any ideas?

It is a problem with your logitech mouse. For some reason even usb mice come up as ps/2 compatible!!! try the logitech website for the latest drivers for your operating system

Hope it helps

Sorry I neglected to mention that I have the latest Logitech
drivers. The system I upgraded from had no problems with this mouse.
Cpu: Intel P4 2.4Ghz Northwood
MB: Abit BH7 Intel 845P chipset
Memory: Corsair XMS PC3200 Cas 2 2x512MB @ 2=2=2=5
Hard drives: Western Digital Caviar 80 GB IDE
Seagate Barracuda 80 GB IDE
OS: multiboot Windows98SE,WindowsXP SP1, & Windows Vista RC1

Also I installed WIndows on the new computer using a Logitech PS/2 Compatible mouse not the G5.
The OSes on the other computer were installed with a Microsoft Optical Wheel Mouse and did not have any phantom mice when I upgraded to the G5.
I suspect that the problem is with the default hardware profile. I have another issue which may be related. That is an excessive Peak Commit Charge of 468 MB which appears to occur during start up before the Windows GUI is loaded.
This may be in the hardware detection phase of the start up process. I have not been able to catch it since the Commit Charge once Task Manager is started is a more reasonable 140 Mb.

The main diffences between the two computers that would seem to have an impact are going from an Intel 845P chipset to an Nvidia 650i SLI chipset and from Windows XP SP1 to SP2. I'm just guessing.
